Did Obama just fix the budget?

Not sure if we got this right – but permanent deadlock in Congress seems to mean an automatic $0.5 trillion in Defense Cuts, and an automatic end of Bush Tax Cuts in 2013.

If so, Obama pretty much did it.

    • Good point! And it might be uncharted water for him. All this caving in the past has been when he was under pressure to get something done.
Now he (in theory) can just sit back, and channel all cries about “less safe America” into demands of raising the marginal rate.

If he really pulls this off, my main beef with him for three yrs is put solidly to rest. He done good on foreign policy and social issues, and if the economy/budget now finally is in the fix, we’ll be alright for now (or moving there). Add a second term, and do the systemic fix, too – better days will come. The crisis will be over.

      But.. we’ll see.

      • Unfortunately, I’m already hearing that the House is getting ready to vote on a special bill that will negate the defense cuts. The Prez has said in the past that he will veto any such bill, but after all the times I’ve seen him buckle under the past few years, I’m feeling skittish.

      • Yeah.. at this point I don’t believe or expect anything until I actually see it.
This “No” from Obama could always mean “No, unless perhaps maybe a bit later…” and so on.
The trust is just broken, even if things might fall in place in the last minute.

And if the Senate goes along with the House on a special bill – he’ll probably go 3/4 in their direction, as usual..
