Rough start for CNN Spitzer.

Worst primetime ratings in ten years.

From Mediate:

CNN’s prime time ratings woes are only increasing with new program Parker Spitzer.

Monday night was the lowest weekday prime time rating average in more than 10 years, since June 28, 2000. And it wasn’t just the 8pmET that was seeing low ratings.

Larry King had even lower ratings than Parker Spitzer, with just 196,000 total viewers. That’s less than Rachel Maddow’s A25-54 demo average in the same hour.

Spitzer is great for commentary – but he’s way too bossy as anchor. And the back-and-forth between him and Parker is quirky and embarrasing. The chemistry is a bit weird too..

Rumor of the Day: Spitzer for Mayor 2013.

NY Post has the story

Just because Eliot Spitzer will co-host a primetime show on CNN doesn’t mean he’s given up his dream of a political comeback. Sources say the disgraced ex-governor, who had to quit once he was revealed to be a regular customer of prostitutes, sees the TV gig as a way to repair his reputation. “He thinks that after he’s on air a few months, he’ll become a familiar face and the scandal will fade away,” said an insider. But upstate voters are less forgiving, and Spitzer knows he can’t win a statewide office. “His plan is to run for mayor when Mike Bloomberg‘s third term ends in 2013,” our source said.

Risky move..

Spizer is a great commentator, refreshing interviewer – but not so sure about anchor material. His voice grows tiresome quickly, and the guy might be too much of a “boss” and take up too much space vs. his guests and side-kick. Besides, his bias and political agenda could easily get in the way – often with some vauge hints of vendettas and lots of stuff going back a long time.

Polls have suggested a comeback might be premature – that ’08 is still too close, and he’s not even that likable on TV. Not quite sure what to make of the lineup either, Blitzer – King – Spitzer – King – Cooper. The CNN death spiral could be slowed for now, but we’ll see in the fall. Maybe an O’Reilly – Spitzer allout war could boost the ratings.
