The case reopens..

And the couple might very probably be convicted again – but Amanda could possibly avoid extradiction and not ever have to return to Italy or serve any sentence whatever it ends up being..

Italy’s highest criminal court on Tuesday overturned Amanda Knox’s acquittal in the slaying of her British roommate and ordered a new trial, prolonging a case that has become a cause celebre in the United States.

Knox called the decision “painful” but said she was confident in the truth.

The Court of Cassation ruled that an appeals court in Florence must re-hear the case against the American student and her former Italian boyfriend for the murder of 21-year-old Meredith Kercher. The exact issues that have to be reconsidered won’t be known until the court releases its full ruling within 90 days.

  1. Unfortunately Italian system has once again proved to be dwindling, but this doesn’t make it a justification either, it doesn’t change the fact that she is guilty, as well as Sollecito.

    • Oh yes! But will Sollecito finally crack this time? He’ll be tried in person in Italy, but if it really was she that held the knife – how long will he protect her?

As for the Italian system – seems like attacking “process errors” is how everyone gets off the hook all the time; mafiosi, politicians and violent offenders…

      • Well, after 17 years of Berlusconi in the picture, I’m sorry to say it but my country has suffered greatly; Justice is just one damaged side.
Now the case will go to Corte di Cassazione in Firenze, known for much more accuracy, so let’s see what happenes next.

      • Ah, so maybe we’ll get to know more this time. The whole “I wasn’t there” routine was sooo C-movie like.

But… seems like she’s gonna stay a free person in the US for the rest of her life, launching a book next month and getting lots of free advertising from the new trial. Sooo sad…

    • Oh yes absolutely. “I did it, and I don’t care”. Then she scared the two guys in the room to fall in line with her bogus stories.

  2. I was quite saddened by all the celebrating that went on when Amanda was freed. Even if she hadn’t done it, the way that the murder victim seemed completely forgotten and overlooked by the reporting was disturbing.

    • Yep, agreed… I didn’t really follow it that closely, but reading through the case now, she’s just soooo guilty – but a rich girl with connections!! Same with her boyfriend, so they just jailed the african guy. Very ugly.
