Christie Knew About Lane Closures

This could all be settled in a few days or weeks then.. if so he’s done for good.. if so the two hours news conference denying everything was blatantly false… and probably non-recoverable..

David Wildstein
, the former Port Authority official "who personally oversaw the lane closings on the George Washington Bridge in the scandal now swirling around Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey said on Friday that the governor knew about the lane closings when they were happening, and that he had the evidence to prove it," the New York Times reports.

Wildstein described the order to close the lanes as "the Christie administration’s order" and said "evidence exists as well tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed, contrary to what the governor stated publicly in a two-hour press conference" three weeks ago.

Newark Star Ledger editorial board: "Forget about the White House in 2016. The question now is whether Gov. Chris Christie can survive as governor."

    • That’s a good take. Right after the news conference I thought “well he couldn’t have just lied like that for two hours”, considering the implications that 1. the truth will eventually come out, and 2. if so, he has just destroyed himself.

But it so doesn’t add up. Not heard of the main bridge to Manhattan partly closed for four days, as the Governor?

This all seems bogglingly reckless and tastes like blind vendetta.

  1. Ok….
But lets remember also Wildstein is trying to get immunity from the NJ US Atty…..

Lets also remember this is on two levels …..

    Political and Legal….

NO ONE has ACTUALLY implicated Christie yet…
And all the pols who ARE lawyers are careful to watch their behinds least christie come out of this on e piece and be Governor for another four years…..

    All that caution said….
I for one do NOT understand HTF he couldn’t have known….

The proof will come…or not come from the legal probe…
Will the aides do him in ?
    Or not?

But there needs to be some more house cleaning at Port Authority which seems to be split now into two separate organizations unlike being one before…

    • Yeah I jumped on this a bit too quickly – but it’s the first time I’ve noticed that politicalwire has given a suggestive headline like that.
“Aide claims Christie knew” would’ve been more correct.

Let’s see how he handles this.

  2. Well, in the radio interview today, he once again claimed that “there could’ve been a traffic study” he didn’t know about. I think it’s just a matter of time before he can no longer hold his story together….

    • Seems like he and Rand Paul have really started the race huh?
But Christie has major distractions in his game now..

I’m a bit surprised by Pauls tactics with Clinton and women btw… I’m not sure how aiming at Hillary’s husband will backfire… and this was fifteen years ago….

    • I’m also enjoying the book a lot.. I’ll do some postings maybe.. to process..
The whole setup in the 1800-hundreds in Europe with five great powers Britain, France, Prussia, Austria and Russia is extremely interesting as a lesson in geopolitics!

And the contrast between the useless Napoleon III (France) vs. the cunning Bismarck (from Prussia but then creating Germany) is made for great storytelling!

  3. Christie seems to be treading water…
Waiting for the other shoe to drop….
The US Atty is the focal point…
And EVERYTHING in the Christie treasure chest is gonna dropped on the table….

    Valuable lesson?
You can’t be a ‘i don’t give f*#k guy and run for national office it just doesn’t work these days…You make too many enemies…

I do NOT think under ANY circumstances that Rand Paul will get the GOP nomination for President ….He’s just fundamentally too far off the beaten path…..

I’m always looking for Posts from You, Moe and Dave….

You KNEW it was gonna snow this much eh?

    • Agreed on the lessons..
And I think that right about now is the point in time when many people start thinking “if there was nothing to this it would’ve been put to rest by now”……
He sounds too much like stonewalling without giving the full story..

And now I’ve posted a few articles again! I’ve changed my mind about the “cunning” Bismarck btw. (in a comment above) and see him more as a disaster; an example of how a coalition built upon good will and hopes of all playing by the rules eventually breaks down. Some guy comes along at the wrong time and place and ruins it.

      Yeah the snow!!! Wow!!!
I’m getting pics from friends in Manhattan completely drowned in it! 🙂
And here it’s a sweeeeet 14C / 60F degress and partly sunny in February, having an espresso outside at times and just loving it 🙂
