Obama’s Ex-CIA Chief Slams White House for ‘Hesitation and Half Steps’

After serious and unnecessary mistakes like the health care roll-out and the recent admission that he underestimated ISIS.. there’s little reason to have any trust left in Obama’s judgement and operational abilities…
Panetta seems to air some grievances in a forthcoming book..

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/10/02/panetta-slams-obama-for-hesitation-and-half-steps-on-syria.html

In a forthcoming book, obtained by The Daily Beast, former spy director and Pentagon leader Leon Panetta blames the White House for screwups from Syria to Afghanistan.

The president’s White House staff was controlling, insular, and often ignored the advice of its senior national security officials,
former Defense Secretary and CIA Director Leon Panetta charges in his yet-to-be-released memoir. The result, Panetta says: botched U.S. policies from Syria to Iraq to Afghanistan.

Panetta—whose new book, Worthy Fights, is set to be released Oct. 7—is particularly tough on his former boss on the issue of Syria.
(A copy of the book was obtained by The Daily Beast.) President Obama had called the use of chemical weapons there a “red line.” So when the Syrian military used chemical weapons in August 2013 to kill an estimated 1,400 people, Obama decided to strike. But then the president abruptly reversed himself—without consulting his national security Cabinet members.

  1. I read the Gates book , which kinda echo’s Leon’s bitching…..

Both guys where worker bee’s NOT elected by the American people….
    While their criticism IS fair….
Politics was of utmost importance to their bosses…
Who had to find their ways thru the media and polling mine fields…
It is the way the American political system was set up…..

One MUST keep THAT in mind….

    • Of course you’re entitled to your opinion!!! I completely disagree of course, I think he’s proven at times incompetent, and often lacking even the most basic understanding of the world and human nature.

    • Very good question.. I’d guess that two or three great Presidents pr. century would be the maximum, normally. Then a couple of disasters, and a bunch of flawed and mixed bags.

  2. Listen….

He’s mad VERY annoyed in the beginning of his first term….
    U and I have talked about this…
    But Leon’s wrong here….
Obama simply could NOT go out and bomb Syria after cameron lost the vote in Parliament….
    People quickly forget….
The President was getting eaten alive with questions of WTF would the bombing accomplish?
Now Assad is turning over the gas…
    Isn’t THAT the goal….
I agree that Obama was way to quick to get OUT of Iraq when he couldn’t get immunity for American troops…
But lets NOT forget the Davis screw up shooting and the HIGH anti-American feelings that followed and OF COURSE Obama makes the Left happy by GETTING OUT of Iraq…
    Bringing the troops home….

    Leon’s a smart guy…
    But again…..
He’s worker bee as is Gates….

It is HUGELY interesting that Americans ARE annoyed at President Obama for trying to STOP fighting….

A bit short sighted but the guy has to be shaking his head and saying….
    ‘Just can’t win”

For those who are pushing for American .’boots on the ground?’

    I predict this….

If for some as sine reason Obama does do THAT?
Ten-seconds after the “GO’ order is give the American media will be out to politically tear him a new one….

    Mark MY words….

    • All that may be, but..
The point still remains that Obama has proven amateurish, naive and incompetent too many times on Foreign Policy.
He’s not alone among Presidents in this respect, but he’s not good at running things. And that’s too bad for all of us.
