This is a no-brainer.. and how it should be done. Mexico protects its country and citizens. Finally people are taking this stuff seriously..
Hearing the President “hugging and kissing” health care workers with exposure to Ebola patients seems reckless and irresponsible….
The cruise ship carrying a Texas health-care worker who “may have” handled lab specimens from Dallas Ebola victim Thomas Eric Duncan is headed back to the United States after Mexican authorities failed to grant permission for the ship to dock off the coast of Cozumel, according to a Carnival spokeswoman.
The Carnival Magic had been waiting off the Mexican coast since Friday morning for its scheduled port visit. Mexican authorities still hadn’t given clearance by noon, so the ship continued to its home port of Galveston, Tex., where it was due back on Sunday, according to Carnival.
And am I just being silly to say this…why was this person on a cruise in the first place?? Maybe it’s the way the news conflates things, but I get the impression that all these health care workers decided to go on a travel kick right after nursing the ebola patient.
Exactly the right question – especially after two of their colleagues already got the deadly plague.. and why did 76 people have to have direct contact with the dying patient, maybe 5-6 would be a bit better…?
And how come they sent the first case in Texas to a local hospital, and not a specialized facility? I saw that one doctor who was sent back to Scandinavia from Africa was treated on an extreme diseases facility with space suits, following protocols for airborne viruses, just to be safe.
It’s a boggling lack of psychological insights into fear triggers and mass panicking in this whole thing…
On a lighter note – I think that all 20 non-health-care worker contacts of Duncan’s are passing the magic 21 days number today or tomorrow…
They just passed it. I still agree that more caution would have been good…and quite frankly, I don’t understand the motivation behind some of the oversights…unless it’s just ineptitude? I hate to think that’s the case.
So now they’ve upgraded the protective gear guidelines to match those used in Africa. Wait, what? Less ebola-protection in the US then Africa?
ROFLMAO! Yeah, we’re not doing a great job of being the number one superpower, are we?
And now, a doctor (a doctor!) who knows he’s infected and really should know better, goes gallivanting across New York, jogging, bowling, taking the subway….
Has the entire world gone completely fucking insane??
Exactly!
Couldn’t he stay at home for at least 10 days..? I think 8-10 days is when most get sick..
Such egoistic and thoughtless behavior…
